On Friday, June 13, 2008, Tim Russert died of an apparent heart attack in Washington D.C. as he prepared his daily work as NBC’s Washington Bureau Chief. While many members of or the Fourth Estate threw softballs at politicians and the news makers of the day, Russert could be counted on asking the questions, which no one else would ask, and demand an answer. He remained neutral during his interviews on “Meet The Press” and other appearances on NBC, and let those interviewed either meet the bar or crash and burn. RPO will miss Tim Russert, as well as those who sought the truth from whom he interviewed. We will also miss his observations and his ability to see the “big picture” and not get caught up in banalities. We cannot replace Tim Russert but we can remember a time when politicians had to be at the top of their game and ready to answer the questions which they hoped to avoid.
