We have come to the end of the road as far as any bi-partisan Health Care Reform! First of all, there was never going to be any give by the Republicans on this issue, or for any other. For the past nine months, I’ve watched President Obama attempt to deal with not so “loyal opposition” in an attempt to reach a bi-partisan Health Care Bill. It should have dawned on him by now that the Republicans have made this the central issue to defeat President Obama and the Democratic Party in the 2010 Elections. Unfortunately, it appears that it has not, as he and the Democrats continue to give ground on this issue, to the point of proposing a Health Care Bill with a Public Option and now with a “trigger option,” which would kick in down the road if the Private Sector failed to reform their greedy ways! That’s like letting the fox into the hen house and leaving the gun in the closet!
Democrats just don’t get it! They want consensus. They want bi-partisanship. They want to be “loved!” Democrats are wimps! As a former Republican, I took delight for decades in the naivety of the Democratic Party. The Republican Party has always taken the position of “You play ball with me and I’ll stick the bat up your ass!” That’s why they have occupied the White House for twenty-nine of the past forty years! Yet the Democrats continue to nip around the edges of every issue and fail to show any balls whatsoever! Even most of their past Presidential candidates have been wimps! Sen. George McGovern in 1972, Sen. Walter Mondale in 1984, Gov. Michael Dukakis in 1988 and to top it off, Sen. John Kerry in 2004! In the meantime, the Republicans have had their way for the past 40 years and they’re a minority party. Candidate Obama appeared to be setting a new standard when he ran his campaign on health care reform. There is a new “gun” in town and he’s ready to actually stand up and get something done. But alas…..we see another compromising Democratic President in the making, ready to give in rather than fight.
I hope I’m wrong about President Obama! With a majority in both the House and the Senate, he should take the reins given to both houses and set down HIS Health Care Reform Act. It must include a Public Option, otherwise the Health Care Industry will continue to under insure and overcharge the American Public. It is the only way that true regulation of the Health Care Industry can be assured. It is going to cost money. There is no health care program in the world that doesn’t cost money. The net result will be that the average American will have some kind of healthcare. It may not be the best system, but no one has yet found one. President Obama has lay out a complete, detailed plan, assure the public that they will have their choice of any plan they want and find a way to pay for it. In most countries, your taxes pay for it! The Public Option will contain the rising cost of the Private Sector to start with. It will force real competition and that will reduce cost. After all, doesn’t the U.S. operate under a “Market Economy”? Unfortunately, it hasn’t for a long time, especially the healthcare industry! He may, if fact, have to raise taxes. It’s time to “fish or cut bait” for President Obama on his Health Care Reform Act. I want to see the Democrats start acting like Republicans!

It is not like that but
It is not like that but every one have to do the cheap health insurance so that in small pay they can get max benefit of that insurance.
I'd still love to know what
I'd still love to know what $1,000,000,000,000.00 is going to do to help defer the costs of out-of-control insurance premiums...Jailtime for non-insured? I've only read snipets of this bill and it's way too full of government control...Let the Ins. companies compete across state lines and take EVERY blood sucking lawyer out of the picture FIRST, and then fix the rest of the problem...The Republicans are a day late and a dollar short on this one, and frankly, I don't think any of them really give a shit either...If it were important to them, they'd have discussed it at least ONCE during their 12 year stranglehold on Congress...
Something has to be done to stem costs of health insurance AND healthcare...no reason for Insurance premiums should cost more than a mortgage, but I'm convinced that NO ONE in Washington has a clue on how to do it...
It's only been 9 months of Democratic stronghold and I'm ready to fire all of them before they completely give the country away...We need to take back our country from the Republicans AND the Democrats.
I can’t argue with you on
I can’t argue with you on this one! My personal belief is that we should have universal health care, as we are being strangled by the Health Care Industry without it. The Public Option is the only way to force the Health Care Industry to be competitive. The only other way to reduce costs is to break up the monopoly that the Health Care Industry has been allowed to create and force them to compete nationally. That’s what Germany has and it appears that their system is the best of a bad lot! So far, no country has been successful in providing universal health care, at least as far as covering cost. The present attempt to provide universal health care appears to be more smoke and mirrors. As for the cost, we, the taxpayer, will have to pay for it. However, if you project the rising cost of the Health Care Industry to the cost of universal health care, the increase in taxes will be less than what you’re going to pay the Health care Industry. On top of that, the Health Care Industry is more interested in making money than they are of providing you decent health coverage.
Our government is no longer working for us. They’re working for the interests of K Street and all the lobbyists who can dish out the money for their campaigns and their self-interests! At the present time, neither the Republicans nor the Democrats are working for you and me! Whatever Health Care Reform is adopted will be, as you said, “a day late and a dollar short!” I have absolutely no trust or confidence in Congress. I will leave it in the words of Thomas Jefferson:
I’m afraid that what’s
I’m afraid that what’s on the article is how I can best describe the Democratic Party. They have proven time and time again that it’s nearly impossible to clinch their agenda. The Johnson Administration was the last Democratic Administration to actually get what they wanted. The reasons were that they had an overwhelming majority in Congress and President Lyndon Johnson knew how to play the game! He’s that last Democratic President who could wheel and deal! President Clinton tried during his first administration and failed. His second administration was probably the best Moderate Republican Administration we have had since President Eisenhower!
Nice job, Tom. Next time,
Nice job, Tom. Next time, tell us what you _really_ think about the Democrats!
