If you are any type of “political junkie,” or just the average listener, you have been inundated by so many polls that you wonder why the hell they haven’t called you by now! Since Iowa, every major media outlet, whether it is television, newspapers, or professional pollsters, have been canvassing New Hampshire, like an electric blanket. Perhaps, that explains the unusual warm weather we had for the New Hampshire Primary! At the end of the day, what service did they provide, if only to give themselves something on which to pontificate?
Both the Republican and the Democratic Polls give us pause to decide why they are so many and what they prove. Let’s just take New Hampshire. Take a look at the Republican Polls. Run down the entire page and see how many polls were taken. In general, most of the polls taken on the Republican side were generally accurate. The pundits had plenty of polls to drum over and analyze each one…and bore the Hell out of you. It was fairly obvious that McCain was overtaking Romney in New Hampshire, especially when Romney had his head handed to him by Huckabee in Iowa! Now, let’s do the same thing with the Democratic Polls. The same cannot be said regarding them. The Media went out of its way to hype the New Hampshire Primary, if only to hear themselves talk! Up to the night of the Primary, the Media chose to write its own storyline, and that was the demise of the Clinton Campaign and the tsunami of support for the Obama Campaign. What supported all of that political hot air, The Polls! Who participated in them and how they were taken is a question that we all should ask. More importantly, why should we believe them? With the advent of Cable News, we now have a plethora of Cable News Shows, which go 24/7, and they all have to talk about something. With extended coverage for the upcoming Primaries, why not create news? The Media best take a step back and decide how they will proceed with the vast number of Primaries ahead. Brian Williams has already taken the first step discussing it in his online article ”Something’s Happening Here” on The Daily Nightly page on msnbc.com. Let’s see if others rise to occasion. We want news, not hype!
The British are best at parody, and the video below best explains the uselessness of Polls. Take a look and have a laugh!
