The Democratic Convention in Denver: Will it be unity or chaos?

Once again, we see the Democratic Party about to fall into the abyss. The Democratic Convention in Denver will either make or break the 2008 Election for the Democrats. Historically, the Democratic Party found itself once again in this same position. One would think that they would have learned from their previous experiences. In the 1968 Democratic Convention, Hubert Humphrey emerged as the candidate, bloody and battered, as well as many of the participants. The country was in turmoil then as now, as the Vietnam War played the central issue, as well as an emerging identity for new voters, who had never voted before. In the 1972 Democratic Convention in Miami Beach, the Democrats nominated the one issue Presidential candidate, George McGovern, with a disastrous outcome! Will History repeat itself in Denver?

The fate of a successful campaign now is in the hands of Sen. Hillary Clinton. As of Sunday, August 24th, Clinton will release her delegates to Sen. Barack Obama. The big question is how she endorses Sen. Obama on Tuesday Night, August 26th when she speaks. Unless she makes every effort to carry over the 18 million votes cast for her during the primaries, the Democratic Convention will be a total waste of time. It’s up to Hillary to bring in those who have either stated that they would either not vote or vote for Sen. John McCain. These are the votes that may well decide this tight race. At this moment, 70% of Clinton’s supporters will back Obama, while there still are 18% who continue to back Sen. John McCain. It’s Hillary’s job to pull in as many of those 18% of voters who have gone over to McCain. The tally comes to some 324,000 votes! To put this in perspective, in the 2000 Election, Al Gore won the majority of votes by 543,895 in the Popular Vote. Those voters are poised to The recent activity of PUMA Pac, a suspicious organization, which basically claims to be Hillary Democrats who now support McCain as "special interests" have taken over the Democratic Party with the nomination of Sen. Barack Obama. I’ve looked at their website and blog, and all I see are either idiots or Republican 527 organizations! There may be some real diehard Clinton fans in that bunch, but it looks like “swift boating” by 527 Organizations sent by the RNC to create chaos at the Convention. Unfortunately, that’s beyond Hillary’s control.

On the other hand, Obama has made the best choice for his VP and running mate, Sen. Joe Biden. Biden was my guy to begin with, so it’s great to have him on the ticket. He brings several things to the ticket that will definitely help Obama. Biden does for Barack Obama what what Dick Cheney did for George W. Bush. His vast amount of knowledge on Foreign Affairs is a major asset to offset any question of weakness in that department and we know that Biden hasn’t been hiding in a closet, transforming himself into Darth Vader! Biden has a sharp sense of humor and can easily speak of the top of his head, has not only experience in foreign affairs as Chairman of the Foreign Relation Committee but also the law, as he was also the former Chairman of the Senate Judicial Committee. Joe Biden is what the ticket needed, "a nice guy," but can also be a pit bull when the time requires one. His one fault is that he tends to talk too much, and may even upstage Obama. I'm certain that they have discussed this matter, as Biden is the first to admit it! The only other question to the success or failure of the Democratic Convention is what President Bill Clinton is going to say in his speech Wednesday night, as there are rumblings of discontent from the former President. Well……it’s only hours away and it should be an interesting week in Denver. The big question is whether Denver will become another Chicago or Miami Beach? If it does, The Clinton legacy will be forever tainted! In the meantime, John McCain has caught up with Barack Obama and we've got one Hell of a horse race! "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line" is attributed to Bill Clinton. It doesn't matter who said it, but it is probably the best line I've ever run across that describes the Democratic Party!
